The importance of clothing in a job interview

Making a good impression in a job interview has a huge impact on a candidate's employability. For 6 out of 10 recruiters, the way they dress is of great importance when selecting a new worker.

However, nowadays there is some flexibility and variety in the clothes that people wear to work, so before going to a job interview, it is important to know and research the dress code of the company in question. To do this, visiting the company's social networks or websites can help in such an investigation.

The idea is that the person in charge of the selection of personnel values the skills and experiences, and not the clothes that one wears. This should make a good impression, but not be the focus of attention.

"While it's important to dress professionally, avoid being a clone of other candidates. Your personality can also be expressed through your clothing, but don't be too extravagant, as you want to impress your interviewer with your skills and experience, not for your clothes", says Alexandra Arranz, director of Walters People Madrid.

Other aspects to consider

When conducting a job interview, it is advisable to plan in advance the route and the means of transport that will be used to get to the appointment. It is also important to have enough time, thus avoiding being late in case of traffic or any transport delays.

Arriving a little earlier facilitates the recognition of the area, in which one can have a coffee and review the notes for the interview. Regardless of the time of arrival, it is not advisable to present yourself at the reception of the company until there are 10 minutes left before the scheduled time.

On the other hand, it is advisable to bring more than one printed copy of the CV, since if the interviewer arrives accompanied there will be documents for those who are present and this will generate an image of calm and organization.
