While big stores like Walmart, best buy and Macy's will have their Black Friday sales, small businesses in Dallas are preparing for the Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday, or Small Business Saturday, takes place on Saturday after Thanksgiving nationwide. The day that celebrates small businesses was founded by American express in 2010 and since 2011 is sponsored by the Small Business Administration (SBA).

In Northern Texas there are several areas with small businesses such as Jefferson Boulevard, deep Ellum, farmers Market and Bishop Arts. Several of these places will have events on Saturday to boost the sales of small businesses.

According to the Dallas Economic Development Office, almost 80% of the city's businesses are classified as small businesses. In Dallas, small businesses employ 40% of all people working in the city.

Small businesses also play a key role in increasing tax revenues, says the organization.

Yesenia Hernández, owner of autumn Moon gifts + Home Goods, a business near Bishop Arts, will participate this year in Small Business Saturday. Hernandez opened his shop in October last year and as he was still assimilating to his business he did not participate in the day he celebrates small businesses.

In her store located on Tyler Street, she sells clothes, home decorating products, candles and jewelry, most of them created by Latin traders.

This Saturday, Hernandez will have traders who are not part of his inventory in a pop-up market selling his products. They'll also have a taco stand and goofy tea outside the store on Saturday. Small Business Saturday Day also applies to small food and coffee venues.

Businesses near autumn Moon gifts + Home Goods will also have pop-up markets this weekend on Tyler streets.

Hernandez invites people to buy their Christmas gifts from local businesses as they usually sell unique or hand-made products locally. People like our store, but they still go to the big stores to buy.

"but we are the ones who need help and we are helping the community our taxes stay here," Hernandez explained.

"by buying local, you're helping your community," he said.

Another thing Hernandez appreciates about his small store is that he can make connections and friendships with his customers, something that is not common in stores like target and Walmart.
