Reopens the Samaritaine, emblem and architectural jewel of Paris

La Samaritaine, a jewel of Art Nouveau and Art Déco that housed some emblematic departmentFrench group of luxury LVMH.

The famous Rivoli Street store closed in 2005 due to deterioration and planned to reopen its doors to the public in 2020 on the occasion of its 150th anniversary.But several litigation and the pandemic prevented it.

LVMH, a majority shareholder of the Samaritaine since 2001, had to wait until 2015 to validate the construction and renewal permit.Between 2012 and 2015, the works were suspended following the resources presented by heritage preservation associations, which denounced the creation of a contemporary glass facade.

The new Samaritaine will have a Cheval Blanc luxury hotel (LVMH brand) with 72 rooms and suites overlooking SENA, whose reopening date is unknown.

The building also houses 15,000 m² of offices, a neighborhood nursery with 80 squares and 97 social homes.

Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewels, the four buildings - including one cataloged as a historical monument - have been restructured but respecting the period elements, such as the mosaics, windows, glass roofs or wrought iron railings.The works cost 750 million euros (915 million dollars)

The stores will occupy 20,000 m² (compared to 30,000 m² of 2005), with a selection of some 600 luxury brands.(AFP)
