A little over five years have passed since the grisly robbery that Kim Kardashian suffered in Paris and the French authorities announced last Friday that they will bring 12 people to trial for their alleged involvement with it, although the date has not yet been set. When the first arrests took place in January 2017, 17 people were taken into custody, ranging in age from 23 to 73. Allegedly, five people raided the star's rented apartment at the Hôtel de Pourtalès and tied her up, walking away with $10 million worth of jewelry, none of which has been recovered (with the exception of a necklace apparently stolen from them). fell on the street to the alleged thieves).

One of the five alleged jewel thieves who broke into her apartment, Yunice Abbas, published a strangely self-congratulatory book last February titled I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian. In a fragment published before the book's debut, the author recreates himself by dedicating many words to making fun of her victim and remembering that she tried to call 911, which is not the emergency number in France. Additionally, she reveals that Fast Car singer Tracy Chapman called Kardashian's cell phone while he had it at her disposal.

“The moment I heard a police car the sound of the phone made me jump. [Chapman's] name appeared on the mobile screen before my disbelieving eyes. It's not possible. I must be hallucinating”, says Abbas in the book. Apparently, the vehicles with which the alleged thieves escaped were nothing less than bicycles, a detail that almost seems too good to be true. Abbas was released for health reasons.

Aomar Ait Khedache, alleged mastermind of the crime, apologized to Kardashian through a letter he wrote from prison in 2017: "After observing your emotions and realizing the psychological damage I inflicted on you... I decided to write to you, but not to get some kind of indulgence on your part."

The letter continues as follows: “Know that I fully sympathize with the pain that you, your children, your husband and those closest to you are suffering. I hope that this letter allows you to gradually forget the trauma you have suffered because of me.”
