Lautem or how to use architecture to design bags

The dictionary defines eclectic as one that "tries to bring together, trying to reconcile them, values, ideas, trends..., from diverse systems." Well, it can be said, without being misleading, that Elena García Silva is. This architect by training, who for 10 years worked on restoration projects of historical and industrial heritage in Spain and Italy, one fine day opted for her other passion, fashion, and founded a brand of accessories based on the concept of excellence. Which is what her name means, Lautem, which comes from the Latin adverb Laute and means "in an excellent way".

In 2004, with these signs of identity, the bags of this designer were born, 100% Spanish-made: leather that comes from Catalonia and wise hands from artisan workshops in Ubrique, the cradle of other luxury brands such as Prada, Loewe, Anderson, etc.

It is enough to look at the bags to understand that the designer's knowledge draws from the sources of architecture: sober, elegant designs, with pure, defined lines... “What do I apply from my training, from my learning, to the design of bags? Everything. Design is always design. Architect training is the most complete in design, from small objects to complex architectures, passing through urban spaces. Obviously the complexity of a bag is much less, but the domain of shapes and volumes makes the approach to these objects of different results”, comments from García Silva.

The brand, which sells online and also in very select stores, is experiencing a great moment of international expansion: its products can be purchased in the United Kingdom, France, New York, Russia, Singapore, Shanghai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi..., and for of course, online.

Fashion and architecture, hand in hand

They define their bags as “small architectures”: they are small jewels of leather goods, made of excellent leather and the metal handles are also Spanish: they come from Valencia. They have different collections but in all of them they take care of the volumes, the proportions, as if it were a small building, but also paying great attention to the details.

They affirm that fashion moves fast but they don't, a slogan that says a lot about their way of working and also about their background. Coco Chanel, an elegant woman as they come, used to say that fashion is like architecture: “it is a question of proportions”. And she wasn't wrong, Elena García's creations prove it.
