Chosen the best wines from Spain and Portugal

The organization of the VinDuero-VinDouro 2020 Awards makes public through this communication the winners of the contest that can be consulted at http://www.premiosvinduero.com. All the award-winning wines will be part of the "Guide to the Best Wines of Spain and Portugal 2020" which will soon also be available on our website.

Excellence is the predominant note in this Edition of the VinDuero-VinDouro Awards, since the scores have reflected excellent quality in the wines that have participated, raising the level to scores very close to perfection (100 points), unequivocal proof of that the Best Wines of Spain and Portugal are in the VinDuero-VinDouro 2020 Awards.

After the blind tasting carried out by the prestigious international jury of the VinDuero-VinDouro Awards, the white wine GALVÁN was the winner as the best wine from Spain and Portugal in the contest held on August 4, 5 and 6 in Trabanca (Salamanca). This wine from the DO Monterrei and produced by Adegas Daniel Fernández has participated in the category of white wines without wood, obtaining 98.80 points.

In addition to this important award, the winners of the VinDuero-VinDouro Awards award 104 Arribe de Oro, highlighting the following wines as the best in their respective categories:

At the same time, the winners of the Best Wines of Spain and Portugal are also published according to the women of the VinDuero-VinDouro 2020 Awards jury, awards resulting from the votes of the women members of the Tasting Committee. The Gran Arribe de Oro in Feminine has been for 100 HECTARES VINHAS VELHAS, a red wine aged between 6 and 14 months belonging to the DOC Douro-Porto and that has been produced by 100 Hectares, which has been voted with 99 points. This award, together with the rest of the Arribe de Oro awards for women, awarded by the women of the tasting committee, aim to give visibility to the important role of women in the world of wine, both as producers and consumers. The women of the jury reward only the extraordinary wines, those scored with 90 or more points.

Undoubtedly, this 2020, the VinDuero-VinDouro Awards have been a success, since despite the difficulties related to the COVID-19 pandemic, a very similar participation to the previous year has been achieved with an origin of 80 different regions Spain and Portugal.

In figures: Almost a thousand wines have participated divided into 11 different categories for a cast of 60 tasters of the highest level. 52.1% of the wines present in the contest came from Portugal and the remaining 47.9% from the Spanish DOs and IGPs.

The Internationally prestigious Tasting Committee has been made up equally of men and women from different professional fields linked to the wine sector, with extensive experience and knowledge that guarantee the professionalism and rigor that the VinDuero-VinDouro Awards include among their many values.

The jury was chaired by Isabel Mijares and García-Pelayo and was made up of Rodolfo Queirós, Begoña Jovellar, Carlos Gallego, José João Santos, Alexandra Mendes, Mar Galván, Jorge Alves, Agostinho Peixoto, Santiago Castro, Antonio Sousa, Cristina Tierno, Julio Gallo, Ana Alves, Alma García, Patricia Dos Santos, Helena Mira, Marina García, Ivo Silva, Arminda Ferreira, Miguel Ferreira, Carla Tiago, Ricardo Velasco, Carmen de Aguirre, Mario Andrade, Carmen Garrobo, César Pinacho, Mar Sánchez, Gerard Devos, María Giménez, Daniel Rainho, Antonio Lopes, José Ignacio Marqués, Arturo Blasco, Luis Mendes, José Sánchez-Barba, José Valdearcos, Misericordia Bello, Manuel Capote, Carlos Javier Herráez, Mónica Otero, Jesús Flores, Rubén Redondo, Sergio Adámez, Valeria Zeferino, Anca Martíns, Adela Richer, Adela Viscay, Filipa Santos and Emilia Jofré.

Behind these three intense days of blind tastings in which our prestigious international jury has been able to assess the organoleptic characteristics of the 11 different wine categories of the VinDuero-VinDouro Awards, there have been months of constant work that have been reflected in the excellent results of this XVI Edition, IV in feminine and that have managed to provide the VinDuero-VinDouro with the recognition and prestige they deserve, placing them on a world map as one of the TOP Contests in the World of Wine.

VinDuero-VinDouro thanks the Tasting Committee for the thoroughness, professionalism and friendliness they have shown during three days to evaluate the wines and enjoy this Territory of Sensations during the activities carried out after the tastings. Of course, thanks to all the wineries that have trusted this Jury and the VinDuero-VinDouro Awards and to whom we wish them much success. And in the same way we want to highlight the excellent work carried out by communication professionals who have been there to make known to the world what was happening on August 4, 5 and 6 in Trabanca.
