10 fashion tips for this winter 2021 from an expert shopper

INTERVIEWFrom the boots of the season (and where to find them) to the trend in which it is better not to invest, going through the purchases of winter 2021. We spoke with the Spanish fashion prescriber Eider Paskual

By Marina Valera

Eider Paskual (1995, San Sebastián) became interested in fashion at a very young age with the intention of studying design. She still remembers those notebooks that she kept with names of possible future brands and other ideas. “I also remember reading many blogs of Swedish girls on the Internet, this when I was older. It was the style that most caught my attention at the time and in 2013 I opened my Instagram account while I was studying”, she explains. Although her intention was to make personal use of it, her profile began to grow little by little. "That was what 100% opened the doors for me to enter the world of fashion," she reveals. Today, this Spanish fashion prescriber accumulates more than 100,000 followers on this social network. Her style is a mixture of classic garments with sporty nods and, of course, concessions to the male wardrobe. All seasoned with a touch of daring on a chromatic palette of neutral colors that make her aesthetic not go unnoticed and that, at the same time, is easy (and appetizing) to emulate.

Eider, who has studied Business Administration and Fashion Communication and Marketing, moved to Barcelona a few years ago where she combined her studies with her work on social networks. “I have been working and collaborating with brands that she would never have imagined for 6 years. But, without a doubt, the best thing about working on it has been traveling”, she confesses, referring to the Fashion Weeks she has been to, the new places and brands she has met or the people and inspirations she has come across. along the path. "Although Covid 19 has taught us to bring out the most creative part that we carry inside and to find inspiration in the most insignificant detail, I am looking forward to having breakfast at airports again!", he exclaims without hiding his desire for things to return , in some strange way, to be a little more like how they were before.

Although none of her parents are dedicated to it, she has always been closely linked to the artistic world. “I've been playing the piano since I was 6 years old, I like drawing, creating, photography... it's something I was born with. I think my dream job is to become a creative director!” she reveals. Last year she moved to Madrid with the intention of finding a master's degree that would fit what she was looking for. “I have very clear ideas when visualizing a project. Music is also something that helps and inspires me a lot”, she adds about her multidisciplinary character. Her personal vision of fashion and her wardrobe, full of timeless yet on-trend garments and accessories, make her the perfect expert shopper to give us some fashion advice on how to update your winter wardrobe, where to find your dream coat and booties, or which pieces to invest in (and which not to). In short, the best purchases of winter 2021.

If you could only buy 5 things to update your wardrobe this winter, what would they be?

1. The Tabi boots, by Margiela: they are the classic of one of the brands that I most admire. I think they will never go out of style and I've been behind them for a long time! In addition, I think that they can also continue to be used the rest of the year, so this would be, without a doubt, my first purchase option.

BUY: Tabi ankle boots in vintage leather, by Maison Margiela (€720).

2. Gaia boots, by Eytys: this is another of the brands that I recommend the most. They are more daring boots, with a transgressive touch that have been on my wishlist since autumn. They have a mix of elegance and daring character that drives me crazy! I can't wait to add them to my wardrobe.

BUY: Gaia boots, by Eytys (€420).

3. The Knitted Balaclava by Paloma Wool: I'm a little bored with the typical beanie every year, so I'd love to try wearing a balaclava for the first time! Lately I've been seeing them a lot on Instagram accounts that I follow and they inspire me on a daily basis. I'm looking forward to daring with it!

BUY: Angels knit balaclava, by Paloma Wool (€55).

4. The Espiga bag, by Hereu.

BUY: Espiga bag, by Hereu (€400).

5. The long coat, from The Frankie Shop.

BUY: olive green coat, from The Frankie Shop (€479).

In which firms do you think it is easier to find the winter coat?

Many years ago I started shopping at American Vintage. I remember that they were one of the first purchases I made with my own salary and I have a special affection for the brand. Also, nowadays I work with them on some occasions, which makes me very happy! For winter, especially, I think it is one of the brands that I recommend the most. They have a variety of incredible coats and colors, with very careful fabrics and materials, and are very durable. I've been wearing a navy blue coat in particular for a couple of years now and I don't take it off. I love it! It is my safe haven when I don't know what to wear.

BUY: Dustmoon coat, by American Vintage (€278.25).

BUY: Dadoulove coat, by American Vintage (€231).

When it comes to investing in ankle boots that are on trend, what design do you think is the best investment?

I think that this winter the Bottega Veneta boots are hitting very hard. I personally really like them and could invest in them, but for something a little more affordable I would also recommend Ganni's Chelseas. I love Danish fashion brands and I could choose any shoe from this one. Ganni is one of my favorite brands, so for this cold winter I would stick with these tall boots.

BUY: Ganni track-soled high-top Chelsea boots (€445).

What purchases this winter 2021 do you think will age better and why?

I am a big fan of vests. I like them in all kinds of shapes, colors, fabrics... I've been using them for a long time! In addition, they are being a trend lately and, although I always try to get away from them a bit, it is a garment that I will continue to wear at any time and at any time of the year. My favorites I think are a second hand Lacoste in navy that I got and any of the Danish brands Munthe or Baum und Pferdgarten. And as a signature that we all have more at street level, I really like Mango's, I also have some! And if not, any good investment in a classic garment can last us winters and winters.

BUY: Munthe Saddle knit vest (€179).

What is the worst winter purchase you have ever made? And the best?

I couldn't say which is the worst thing I've ever done, but I bought some black leather gloves for Filomena, this snowy and cold storm we've experienced in Madrid. Between giving them daily use, ice skating on the slopes of Malasaña with skateboards like we would never have imagined being able to do and the snow, they have been destroyed and left my hands black! Although I take a little blame (laughs). I would dare to say that this has been my worst and best purchase at the same time: although they had a short life, they saved me those days.

What color do you think is essential this winter?

For winter, my first option is neutral and dark colors. Although, from time to time, I like to add touches of color with an accessory or sweater to make a look a little more arty or geeky, generally I always go more towards the dark. This winter, in my opinion, the color green is hitting hard in all kinds of shades: khaki greens, fluorescent greens, bottle greens... Since the last Louis Vuitton shows I think I have green very much in mind (laughs).

BUY: cardigan, by American Vintage (€157.50).

BUY: Munthe Talinum check coat (€389).

BUY: long quilted anorak, by Mango (€45.99).

BUY: green waistcoat with jewel buttons, by Ganni (€285).

What vintage clothing or accessories matter right now?

Personally, what I like the most to buy in second-hand stores are bags, blazers or jeans. I think they are the garments that are best preserved, although you can always find everything! I recommend Vestiaire Collective if you're looking for something luxury, but as everyone knows it, I advise you to visit Cold Vintage: it focuses on a streetwear style with coats, sweatshirts and urban accessories. In addition, they also have unique items from luxury brands.

BUY: vintage jacket, by Balmain (€137.95 at Coldvintage.com).

I also love spending time discovering Instagram profiles that sell second-hand clothes. There are real gems! The last thing I bought was two vintage running shoes. They are like new and are models impossible to find in stores today. They were some Asics and some New Balance.

What is the most amortized garment in your wardrobe?

The most amortized garment in my wardrobe is a black, oversize and vintage blazer from my father, what more could you ask for! I am very fond of going to second-hand stores in search of the perfect garment. In my opinion, the best jackets are there and they are for men, it is the fitting that I like the most.

I also have to add my latest acquisition: the Phoenix shoes, from Eytys. They have been a good investment, the truth is that I do not take them off. And I am sure that I will continue to use them for the rest of the seasons.

BUY: Phoenix shoes, by Eytys (€172).

What trends for this winter 2021 do you think are not worth investing in?

As I said before, I'm not one to let myself be guided by trends, I prefer to invest in garments or items that I've been behind for a long time and that I know I won't get tired of. But I think that right now and because of what we are having to live with, I would not invest in party clothes, such as metallic, tight designs, very neat...

If you could only buy one bag that lasts 24/7, what would it be?

I discovered the Boyy bag brand at Paris Fashion Week last year. They trusted me to carry their bags and, since then, I can say that the Bobby 23 model is the one I have used the most this last year. I love it: it goes with everything, it's super comfortable and it lasts like no other! I would choose it over and over again.

BUY: Bobby 23 bag, by Boyy (€1,100).

I also recommend By FAR, another of the bag brands that I carry the most (although surely you have already seen it on social networks).

BUY: Amber bag in black, by By FAR (€575).
